Mrs.Holthaus’ Third grade students designed egg containers that would survive a 54 foot drop. Containers included paddling , parachutes , and anything else that would slow decent by increasing resistance. There were about 1 dozen eggs that survived the plunge. Thanks to Mr. Brent Alverson and Evergy for the assistance with this project.

Sebastian Burk
by Neil Haug and Blake Broxterman
Meet Sebastian Christian Burk, a member of the Class of 2026. Born on September 10, 2007,
Sebastian spent most of his life in Conroe, Texas, where he was raised until the age of 16
before moving to Centralia and becoming part of the Panther family. Sebastian is the son of
Sheri Wagenschutz and Bob Burk and is a brother to Savannah, Benjamin, and Ethan.
During his time in school, Sebastian found enjoyment in band, where he was able to play the
bass guitar and express himself through music. Outside of band, one of his favorite places at
Highland was the mechanics shop, where he could work with his hands.
When it comes to teachers who made a difference, Sebastian says Mrs. Gleason stands out the
most. He shares that she “has really inspired me to become better with my vocabulary and
writing,” helping him grow both academically and personally.
Like many students, Sebastian faced challenges along the way. He says one of the hardest
things for him was learning to step out of his comfort zone and be more outgoing. Over time,
he’s grown in confidence and feels better prepared to take on the world after high school.
Some of Sebastian’s favorite memories aren’t just in the classroom, but in the everyday
moments—like sitting at the lunch table with friends at his old school, laughing and making
memories that will stick with him for years to come. When asked for his advice for next year's
senior class, he said, “Be yourself and don’t be so uptight. It’s your last year, make it worth it.
Don’t just go through the year as a shadow.”
After graduation, Sebastian is enlisted in the Army and will be doing six years while also
attending college. He hopes to study music theory and biology—combining his passions with
ambitious goals of becoming both a rockstar and a NASA scientist one day.

Dylan Figge
by Kelton Hunninghake
Jessica and Therron welcomed Dylan Figge on September 8, 2007. He lives on his family farm helping out, which he loves doing. Dylan is the only child in his family and after high school Dylan plans on staying on his family farm doing what he loves.
Throughout high school Dylan has participated in FFA and football. His favorite experience was playing football, where he built strong friendships, and made good memories. Dylan states that everyone that can participate in football should go out and don't start late. You will make so many great memories playing with friends and fighting for them. One of his favorite memories was in junior year messing around in the Ag Structures class.
Dylan credits his teachers, but his favorite is Mrs. Gleason, for preparing Dylan for the future. High school has its challenges but he pushes through it still making sure he hangs out with his friends and having fun.
To the next year's seniors Dylan offers some advice stating "Don't take senior year for granted, it goes by really quick.” When I asked Dylan what one word that sums up high school is, he stated, “Quick so enjoy high school while you can and don't wish it away.”
Dylan is ready to take on the next chapter of his life by working on the family farm. He will take everything he learned with him, not only skills but also memories, friendships, and life lessons that shaped him along the way.

Ty Winter
By Brady Becker and Justin Watkins
Ty Winter was welcomed into this world on June 8, 2008, by his parents Jessi Strathman and the late Andy Winter, and was raised by his step-dad Justin Strathman. Ty has one older sister Delaney Winter. Ty attended Valley Falls prior to coming to Centralia in the summer of 2016.
In his time at Centralia, Ty has been a part of the football team for all four years. He also played basketball for his first two years of high school. Throughout high school Ty was an outstanding member of FFA, KAY’s, and SADD.
Ty was asked his favorite memory from his four years of high school he stated, “My favorite memory in high school was the C team tourney my sophomore year in Sabetha.” Ty said that they were playing well but had lost one game and got yelled at by their coach because they weren't playing as a team. They went on to lose every game at that tournament. Once the tournament was over they got pizza at Casey’s before going home. During Ty's time in high school he said the most influential teacher for him was Roger Holthaus. Ty stated Mr. Holthaus always encouraged me to be the best person that I can be, and that no matter what situation I know that I can call him for advice and he would give it.
After graduation Ty plans on staying with his current job working for Ron Heinen at Goff Grain. Ty’s advice for next year's senior class would be, “make the most of the time you have, and don’t let others' opinions or words about you stop you from doing what you want. As well as you only get a few true friends so keep them close.”
Ty stated that the most challenging part of high school was adapting to having more difficult homework and the complexity of the math and science problems. When asked if he could relive one moment from high school and why he chose “Going to state my junior year. It was a great season with a great team. I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to play in every game. The atmosphere was awesome.” After asking how high school has prepared him for the future Ty said, ¨It has shown me that there will always be unfairness in life and that you have to learn who to trust and that there might not always be people in your corner, and that it's very important to keep your circle close.” One fun fact about Ty is that he loves to hunt and fish and that he has been fishing since he was old enough to walk, and hunting for the last six years. Ty would describe his high school experience with the word memorable. He made a few friends and even more memories along the way.

Gradey Becker By Max Walters
On November 2nd of 2007, Gradey Becker was welcomed into this world by his parents, Royce and Monica Becker. He has three older brothers, Ethan, Corbin, and Maveryk. As well as a younger sister, Malayna. After graduating from Centralia High School, Gradey plans to start trucking for JED.
Throughout high school, Gradey has participated in many activities which include football, basketball and baseball. However, if he could pick his favorite activity it would be football. Gradey’s favorite memory in high school was winning at Pittsburg-Colgan for the 2024 Sectional football game. The Pittsburg-Colgan game was also one moment from high school that he would relive. Gradey had extra motivation because we weren’t voted to win and he stated that,”The crowd and game was electric.”
If Gradey was to decide which teacher was his most influential teacher he would choose Mrs. Whetzal. His most challenging part of high school was junior year. Throughout the year, he was always busy with homework, working the concession stand, and playing sports. Gradey had to make sure he was focused and stayed on top of his homework.
Gradey is well prepared for the next chapter of his life where he will start trucking for JED. High school has taught him to enjoy the moments and to get his stuff done on time. As Gradey’s time at Centralia is wrapping up, his advice to next year’s seniors is not to take time for granted and to have as much fun as possible without getting into too much trouble.
