Mrs. Wertenberger's Human Growth and Development class and Mrs. Lueger's Kindergarten class enjoyed participating in a fun Kagan Cooperative Structure called Fan N Pick (My Favorite Things) to get to know each other. Enrichment projects to enhance the curriculum are planned by the teachers and implemented throughout the school year. The high school students and Kindergarten children meet once or twice a month for these fun, hands-on activities. Some activities that the students will participate in include: gummy bear math, M & M math (estimate, sort, graph, add, subtract, patterns, tally marks, greater than/less than/equal to), gingerbread houses, follow a recipe and make play-doh, bake bread (wheat science), sidewalk chalk (sight words/color words/number words), apple math (weight, measure, graph, sink/float) and practice report card skills. The younger children look up to the high school students and think the world of them. This is a great opportunity for both the older students and the younger students to be actively engaged in the learning process.
