I worked as a substitute teacher the school year of 1988-89 after graduation from K-State. The next two years I worked as a teacher aide at Westmoreland Elementary and coached at the High School. When Westmoreland combined with St. George and created Rock Creek High School I coached while I was going back to school at K-State. From 1983 to 1990 I served in the Kansas National Guard attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. I finished my career with the Guard as a tank commander.
I married my lovely wife Linda in 1991. We have two sons. Our oldest boy, Derek is currently attending Cloud County Community College in Concordia. Our youngest son Ryan is currently a senior at Frankfort High School. My wife also has a cat named Pistol. The cat and I manage to tolerate each other.
I enjoy reading a good book and fishing when I have the time. I also enjoy traveling around the country to historic sites. I have been to many sites in Washington D.C. and have also been to Hawaii where my family and I went to Pearl Harbor and visited the USS Arizona memorial and stood on the deck of the USS Missouri. I have been to the National World War I museum in Kansas City and the National World War II museum in New Orleans. I have been to Vicksburg in Mississippi and have hopes to visit more Civil War sites in the near future. I also enjoy visiting historic sites in Kansas such as the Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, the salt mine in Hutchinson, Eisenhower Center in Abilene, Fort Larned, Fort Scott and many other sites throughout the state. I am also a fan of Barbeque Pit Wars and enjoy using my grill and smoker on the weekends.
