I received a BSE Degree from Emporia State Teacher's College.
I am certified in English/Language Arts in grades 7--12.
I have attended the International Reading Conferences (IRA) each school year. My professional development included new technology methods of teaching in the classroom and the change of developing teaching without texts, using only writing to acknowledge students' grammar.
I've attended the Common Core Standards Conferences of English/Language Arts in various places in Kansas each time a new one was established to correlate to the standards as they developed.
Workshops I've attended are too numerous to list, but the last ones were in Emporia in which the presenter Carol Haley McClain discussed new methods of teaching vocabulary.
I began teaching at Frankfort High School in August 1975, so this year is my fortieth year of teaching.

This is my first teaching position, but I began teaching in August 1975.
I married Louis Schomaker in 1971. We have three children, one of whom is deceased, and they all graduated from Frankfort High School. We also have two grandchildren who live in Oklahoma. I have two stepchildren, one of whom is a teacher in Texas, ten step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
I enjoy reading, cooking, and working word-search puzzles. I also enjoy experiencing museums because I am a history buff and can spend one or more days reading everything there is to read in museums.
