My first eight years of teaching were in Gardner/Edgerton School District in Gardner, Kansas. While there, I taught second grade and first grade. Additionally, I was a member of the Learning Exchange Alliance Team for eight years, received training on Spencer Kagan’s Cooperative Structures, and trained staff members. I spent two years as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher at a Christian school while my children were young. In 2003, I was fortunate to be offered a teaching position in the De Soto School District as an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for the Preschool Program at Prairie Ridge Elementary School. I was an Early Childhood Special Education teacher for two years and a Kindergarten teacher for two years. I received the Teacher of the Year Award in 2008. We moved to St. Marys to be closer to family and I was offered a second grade position. I was a member of the Leadership team for the Kaw Valley School District and Site Council member. I trained and implemented Character Counts district wide and at the building level. I provided training and implemented Multi-Tiered Systems of Support process at St. Marys Grade School. In 2011, my family moved to the home place where I grew up. I love this quote “You never know the moment in a child’s life when you can make a difference.”
I married my high school sweetheart and we live at the home place where I grew up. We have three children Cole, McKenna, and Madison. Cole is a Freshmen at K-State University, McKenna is a Junior and Madison is a Freshmen at Centralia Schools. We have a dog named Molly. We enjoy cheering on the Panthers and attending K-State football games.
I enjoy spending time with family, gardening, reading, and being outdoors.
