I graduated from Nemaha Valley High School in Seneca, KS.
I attended Highland Community College on an academic and athletic scholarship. After 3 semesters I transfered to Emporia State Univeristy where I graduated with honors in Math/Computer Science education. I decided to get my teaching endorsement in Physics and Physical Science from Kansas State Univeristy and attended there during the evenings and summers.
My Bachelors of Science in Education is in 5-12 Math, 5-12 General Science, 9-12 Physics and 5-12 Computer Studies.
I started teaching in USD 380 in the fall of 1997. I currently teach College Algebra and College Trig for dual credit from Highland Community College. I teach a section of Algebra 2, Geometry, 8th grade math, 6th grade science and junior high seminar. I have been a volleyball coach for 24 years. I have been a head high school coach, a junior varistiy coach and junior high coach. I coached one year of club volleyball. I coached junior high basketball for two years and have coached junior high track for over 15 years. I have been the junior high athletic director at Centralia for 19 years.
My first real job was on my parents dairy farm. The jobs were endless and the rewards were many. I worked as a waitress at the former Prairie Lounge in Seneca for my aunt and uncle while I was in high school and I was a tutor in college and graded papers for a math professor as well. In college I worked at Wal-Mart, before they installed scanners, so I was responsible for entering in the data. I also worked for Sears at both the White Lakes Mall and West Ridge mall. I worked for Henry Brother's Implement during my winter breaks in college taking inventory and data entry. I returned to my home on the farm each summer to help with any chores I could to earn extra spending money.
Helped a neighbor for 4 years in managing the paperwork and billing for his seed business. I was also a KSHSAA registered volleyball official for 12 years. I currently assist my oldest daughter in mowing the cemetery at our church.
My first four years of teaching was at Blue Valley Randolph, which was a 50 mile commute . I still have many friends from that area including former students, parents and teachers.
I took a two year teaching job at Onaga, which was a 28 mile drive. I taught 6th, 7th and 8th math as well as high school Chemistry, Physics and General math.
In the past 19 years at Centralia I have had many extra jobs. I have been a class sponsor, planning concession stands and spaghetti suppers. I was the NHS sponsor for 6 years and was on PDP committee for 8 years. I like to help out with the book and clock at volleyball and basketball events also.
I have been married for 23 years and have two children, both of which attend Centralia Schools.
My hobbies include reading, golfing, and spending time at the lake with friends and family. My favorite job is to mow my yard. I love the smell of cut grass (alfalfa is my favorite cut though) and find mowing relaxing. My favorite author is John Grisham and my favorite movies include the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Top Gun and The Goonies.
Interesting fact: I like to learn. I try to learn something new every day. If it is something about cooking, or sewing, or just a fun fact, I believe everyone needs to learn something new every day.
My favorite thing to say is "Always try to be better than you were the day before".
